With a good selection of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, all of the Audi Q7 range offers an eight speed automatic gearbox as standard. There is even a diesel model that can deal effectively with any harmful NOx emissions by filtering them out. For those of you interested in the stats, there is also an engine option for the Audi Q7 that will see the car hit a mightily impressive 62mph within 5.5 seconds, although this option must be specially ordered when selecting your preferences.

We would say that the Q7 is certainly more agile on the roads than it is during any of its off road excursions. It's pretty nimble for a car with such a big frame and control generally feels good. When travelling slowly, however, the bumps and lumps in the road are felt a little too keenly with a ride that is definitely on the firm side.

As with many of its Audi cousins, the Q7 certainly benefits from being a relatively quiet car to drive, with minimal road and wind noise to disturb the driver and passengers. The rounded nose at the front end of the Q7 and a suspension that is self lowering, both contribute to smoothness when travelling at good speeds, as it cuts through the air. Again, though, it's the road surfaces that are not so well maintained that prove to be a bit of an Achilles heel for the Q7, with its wheel arches echoing somewhat on these surfaces.

A more than decent standard trim package includes plenty for most drivers, such as climate control, cruise control, all round electric windows, air suspensions and alloy wheels. If you want to improve on this selection there are other options available. You can add extra lighting, cabin trim in either wood or aluminium, and heated leather seats that can be adjusted electronically. Another step up to the S Line trim package will see other elements added to the mix, such as some extra sports modelling and styling and even headlamp washers. A DVD sat nav and a sunroof that can cover all three rows of seats are further options available.

Considering this is very much a 4x4 vehicle, my Audi Q7 feels and performs like a car and that's a compliment! With an average of a touch under 30mpg, you have to say that fuel economy is pretty good for a 4x4 of this nature. It ticks a lot of boxes and I can certainly recommend it.
