With just one diesel engine model on offer, it's probably fair to say that most people buying an Audi TT Roadster will opt for one of the four petrol engines available. The mid range petrol would definitely be our pick of the bunch, offering a very smooth experience, although in fairness all of them possess decent pace. If you do prefer diesel then you will be rewarded with a decent car that manages to produce 50 mpg. You have a choice of 2 gearboxes with most models, with the optional S tronic six or seven speed semi automatic being popular despite the standard version coming with a six speed manual gearbox.

If you avoid models with larger wheels you will be rewarded with a relatively decent ride, although having said that, there can be some shuddering through the steering wheel on uneven surfaces. Grip is good, however, and in general the steering responds well. If you want to have a choice between front wheel and four wheel drive, then you will need to select the low end petrol model. Most of the others are four wheel drive as standard.

When the top is rolled back, tall drivers may find themselves ducking to avoid the wind. We also found that although the fabric roof is lightweight, it did tend to let some road noise through, especially when driving at speed. Those larger wheel models suffer again and produce more noise on rough surfaces. It's the models with smaller wheels that produce the quietest rides. The diesel engine is surprisingly quiet and smooth while the turbo petrol engines produce a healthy but throaty sound.

Alloys, aluminium interior trim and climate control are found in the entry level trim package. Upgrade to a sports package and you will get the Alcantara and leather upholstery. Full leather trim, a lower sports suspension, xenon headlights and other aesthetic bits and pieces will be your reward for purchasing the S Line package.
