The Land Rover Discovery is certainly a heavyweight and a powerhouse so the twin turbo engine always has plenty of work on its plate. From a standing start, it needs a bit of coaxing to build up the pace but once cruising speed has been reached, the engine performance has plenty to impress as well as being quiet and smooth.
Whilst the Discovery cannot boast the physics bending quality of perhaps a BMW X5, there is however, plenty of general composure about it. It's also surprisingly effective and quick going through bends. Get this vehicle on the motorway and it's certainly amongst the finest available. Deteriorating road surfaces never seem to be an issue with an air suspension that absorbs it all nicely. If you really put your mind to it, you might just pick up the slightest of patter coming from the back of the vehicle.
The evolution of the car means that there is only the merest of background hum that comes from the turbochargers and the ancillaries. The cabin is an equally serene place with improvements meaning that excessive noise no longer makes its way in. The Discovery would easily rival some of the most impressive luxury cars for its levels of quietness, with only some wind noise from the windscreen and sturdy side mirrors to confirm that you are indeed in a Land Rover. The gear box is of the eight speed, automatic variety and remarkably, it's as impressively smooth as the rest of its features.
A variety of model variations means that there are also a variety of equipment packages. The entry level GS model has the basic luxuries, such as electric windows, Bluetooth, keyless entry and start up along with air conditioning. Selecting an XS model will ensure you get the addition of front parking sensors, cruise control, automatic headlights and wipers, as well as MP3/USB connectivity, hard disk sat nav and luxurious heated leather seats! Those venturing towards the HSE model will be rewarded with leather and wood trim throughout to go along with electrically controlled gadgets and a really decent Harman Kardon stereo.

My business really dictates that I use a 4x4, so a few of months ago I bought a mighty Range Rover Discovery. Like I said, I need a 4x4 for work, so have had a few before and I can honestly say that none of them were a patch on the Land Rover, especially for levels of comfort. I have been to some pretty wet and wild UK destinations in this car, over all kinds of terrain and it's just been so solid all the way. A really impressive 4x4!
