There are four different versions of the Mini Coupe available and to date we have only had a chance to experience two of them, so we will concentrate on them. At the top of the range on the petrol side you have the John Cooper Works model and we have to say it has incredible pace and it's versatile too. The Cooper SD diesel suffers in comparison on both of these fronts. There are also two more petrol versions should you be interested, in the Cooper and Cooper S.
The diesel option that we experienced was certainly no slouch in the handling department but the steering let the side down by offering an often erratic experience. Having said, the overall ride quality should be more than enough for most drivers. More enjoyable is the JCW which seems to tick more boxes overall, it's really fun to drive with generally better steering and settings which lean towards the firm side, but the fun factor shines through.
It seems road noise is unavoidable with this Mini and it's not just apparent on motorways, although there is even more noise from the wind when travelling at speed. The petrol version is perhaps even guiltier of being noisy, especially at cruising speeds, but tends to redeem itself when put through its paces a bit. There is still more noise than you would like from the diesel engines, but at least they do seem to be a bit more refined compared to their petrol cousins.
With four different versions of the Mini Coupe, you might think there would be an array of equipment and kit for each model, for them to be discernible. However, all of the coupes are treated to the same basic package which includes air conditioning, parking sensors, alloys as well as DAB radio and a CD player. If you want to personalise the experience a little bit, there are plenty of optional extras to help you customise your new Mini.

We picked up our new Mini Coupe just a few weeks ago, so it's a bit early to give it a full and comprehensive review just yet, but what we have seen so far, we really love! Perhaps, top of the bill is the fuel economy which is really impressive and the performance is really decent too. A lot of people say that Mini's are really fun to drive and although it's hard to put your finger on specifics, it really is true. It looks good, feels good and you know there is quality underneath appearances.
