We know if you decide to take out a BMW X4 Lease it’s likely your journeys will mostly be across A-roads or an extended motorway cruise, rather than ever ploughing through muddy fields. So, with near perfect weight distribution & a low centre of gravity X4 is ‘the’ Sports Activity Coupe for BMW motoring enthusiasts who desire a higher driving position with ‘cat-like’ on-road handling & most certainly, sporting intentions. All variants across the X4 range include dynamic suspension & a sports-tailpipe exhaust system as standard, there are also some funky new 3D LED tail-lights to complete the external appearance, a subtle addition to the already muscular body styling.
The lowest cost BMW X4 Lease is usually found the with the entry level Sport trim. When we say ‘entry level’, don’t be put off as there’s still leather upholstery & a reversing camera as part of the deal. So even though monthly pricing might be less than you thought, thanks to a leasing & Contract Hire solution there’s still high levels of comfort & value for money on offer right from the get-go. For something truly special but understandably a little more expensive, check out the M Sport ‘X’ flagship model, it’s new to the range of available BMW X4 for Lease. M Sport X includes some fancy alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof & those highly desirable ‘Icon’ adaptive headlights that automatically follow the direction of travel & dip a full-beam when there’s oncoming traffic, just right for dark mornings or late-night commutes.

With a 2.0 litre and a couple of 3.0 litre diesel engines (20d, 30d and 35d) available, those buying a BMW X4 have an initial choice to make. The slightly less powerful 3.0 litre engine (30d) has plenty of speed and is beautifully flexible, delivering the goods from around 1800rpm and not wavering even when the revs are higher. The 8-speed automatic gearbox is partly responsible for the impressive turn of pace and is comfortable at all times whether being nimble and smooth through the gears or needing something a little more aggressive.
For a big car, the X4 certainly knows how to take a bend, turning in and powering out admirably thanks to a responsive and accurate steering set up. The ride quality is also just that – quality. BMW's optional variable damper control has been present in the versions we have tried and just as with the X3, this particular function comes well recommended. It allows the overall ride to remain comfortable, regardless of speed and road surface.
It's not all plain sailing, unfortunately, with the 30d's engine sounding a bit gruff when put through its paces. The turbo whistle isn't particularly welcome either. This jarring does thankfully calm down when cruising and at the wheel, there's not really much in the way of vibration which certainly helps to smooth things out a bit. Heading out onto the motorway reveals another fly in the ointment with some obvious wind noise being a bit unsettling – the door mirrors are a particular culprit in this respect.
Levels of included equipment certainly can't be grumbled about, with entry level models featuring heated leather seats, climate control, xenon headlights, digital radio and front and rear parking sensors to name just a few of the highlights. The next level up will add an overall sportier package while the M Sport model has slightly larger wheels, sportier seats and the M Sport suspension system.
