Tax Benefits Of BMW Business Leasing

One of the biggest reasons businesses choose BMW leasing is the potential tax efficiency.*

Can BMW Business Lease Payments Be Tax Deductible?

In many cases, yes.

Corporation Tax

If you’re a limited company, you may be able to offset up to 100% of your monthly business lease against your corporation tax liability. However, the exact amount you can reclaim depends on the car’s CO₂ emissions:

  • For cars with CO₂ emissions over 50g/km, only 85% of the lease cost is tax-deductible.
  • If the CO₂ is 50g/km or less (all EVs and some PHEVs qualify), then 100% of lease costs are deductible.

VAT

VAT-registered businesses can claim 50% of the VAT on a car lease payment for a Business Contract Hire vehicle. If the car is used solely for business purposes, you may be able to claim up to 100% VAT back on the initial rental payment and monthly instalments. However, if the car’s CO₂ is greater than 50g/km, unreclaimed VAT is restricted to 85%.

Maintenance costs and excess mileage charges are also VAT-recoverable (between 50 and 100%, depending on the usage and emissions) and can be offset against your annual tax bill.

Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) Tax Explained

If a director or employee uses a company vehicle privately, Benefit-in-Kind tax may apply.

The amount payable depends on:

  • Vehicle list price (P11D value).
  • CO₂ emissions.
  • Electric range.
  • Income tax band.

This is why electric BMWs, such as the iX3, i5 Saloon, and iX, are particularly attractive for business leasing, as they attract significantly lower BIK rates than traditional petrol or diesel models.

BMW Business Leasing Tax & BIK Comparison (2026)

Model Approx. P11D Value BIK Rate Monthly Tax (20%) Monthly Tax (40%)
BMW iX3 xDrive50 £60,590 4% £40.39 £80.79
BMW i5 M60 Saloon £100,145 4% £66.76 £133.53
BMW iX xDrive60 £95,205 4% £63.47 £126.94

BMW 530e M Sport £62,500 10% £104.00 £208.00

BMW X5 xDrive50e £84,000 10% £140.00 £280.00

*You should always seek the advice of a qualified tax professional or accountant before entering into a business contract hire agreement.
