The Porsche Macan Electric: At a Glance

The Macan Electric It has been built from the ground up using Premium Platform Electric (PPE), created by Audi (featured in the Audi Q6 e-tron), but tuned unmistakably to Porsche standards.

The Porsche Macan Electric isn’t simply a combustion SUV with batteries replacing the fuel tank and the powertrain replacing the engine. It’s a powerful innovation with breathtaking acceleration capabilities (0-62 mph in 3.3 secs!), and is an electric-themed turning point for the brand.

Key Features:

  • Fully electric SUV with rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive variants.
  • A power output of up to 639 PS.
  • 0-62 mph in as little as 3.3 seconds.
  • 100 kWh battery (95 kWh usable) with a range of up to 381 miles.
  • 800-volt architecture with ultra-rapid DC charging.
  • 10–80% charge in as little as 21 minutes.
  • Advanced Porsche Active Suspension Management.
  • Up to 540L of rear boot space and 84L of front storage (frunk).

What Are The Differences In Porsche Macan Electric Trim Options?

How Does The Porsche Macan Electric Compare To The Porsche Macan?

There’s more to the Macan Electric than simply being an EV version of the base model. When comparing the standard Porsche Macan Electric to the standard Macan petrol model, the differences can be seen in the performance.

  • In terms of speed, the Macan reaches a top speed of 144 mph, while the electric model caps out at 137 mph, which makes sense in terms of saving power.
  • The horsepower of the cars differs here, too. In the petrol model, the maximum power combustion engine has 265 BHP. For the electric, we look at the Overboost power with Launch Control, which boasts an impressive 360 BHP (for the basic model), increasing up to 639 BHP (with the turbo trim).
  • The handling differs between models, with a maximum torque of 563 Nm in the electric model and 400 Nm in the petrol counterpart.
  • The models hardly differ in size, with a meagre 58mm difference in length and 16mm difference in width. This allows the electric model to keep the petrol model’s aerodynamics and Macan style, using the space for storage instead.
  • What drivers might find surprising is the difference in weight. Despite not having the weight of a combustion engine, the unladen weight (EC) of the Porsche Macan Electric is 2,295 kg. This is 375 kg heavier than the petrol model, which weighs in at 1,920 kg.
  • The maximum towing loads are the same in both models, capping out at 2,000 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked.
  • Another favourable feature of the Porsche Macan Electric is the 540 L of boot space, in contrast to the 488 L available in the petrol Macan. It might not seem like much, but every bit of space can count.
  • In terms of the interior, the Macan Electric has certainly had an upgrade to the styling, with an aesthetically pleasing 12.6-inch curved screen and more space for passengers.

Porsche Macan Electric Review – Performance

We’ve shown you some of the stats, but what does that really mean in terms of performance and driving the Porsche Macan Electric?

Despite being a newer, innovative model for the brand, it drives unmistakably like a Porsche. Losing the character of such an iconic car is often a worry of potential EV drivers, but that’s not the case with this model at all.

Creating EV models isn’t a compromise for Porsche, but a step into the future. The Macan Electric delivers the instant torque expected from an EV, but with Porsche’s signature precision, preserving everything drivers love about driving a Porsche.

The Turbo model specifically offers peak performance that stands up strong against sports cars, while remaining practical for everyday business or personal use. It holds its own against other electric SUV options, too, like the BMW iX or Audi Q6 e-tron.

The rear-axle steering and steel spring suspension keep the car smooth on bumpier roads, and it can be enhanced with optional extras such as the Porsche Active Suspension Management System. This makes it perfect for use in more rural home settings or for business use that sees a wide range of travel requirements.

At the same time, it effortlessly glides on motorways, on a par with other EV models like the Tesla Model Y. For optimal acceleration, the Turbo and GTS models reign supreme for the Macan Electric.

Porsche Macan Electric Review – Range & Battery

Porsche Macan Electric Range

‘Range anxiety’ is real among prospective EV owners. ‘Will my vehicle have enough charge to last as long as I need?’

With the Porsche Macan Electric, the anxiety can be quelled.

The Macan Electric boasts a 100 kWh battery (95 kWh usable), which offers fairly good WLTP ranges. Though they vary depending on each variant, these span from 363 miles WLTP range (GTS Trim) to 398 miles WLTP range (Standard Trim).

Though this is usually enough for daily life and even for business use, this does place the Macan Electric much lower in the peak WLTP ranks compared to contemporaries like the Polestar 5 with 421 miles WLTP range.

The Macan Electric is also beaten in range by the Porsche Taycan with 421 miles WLTP. However, it should be noted that the Taycan is smaller with less space for storage.

Porsche Macan Electric Battery

The lithium-ion battery does charge fairly quickly, utilising 800V technology to charge from 10-80% in 16-21 minutes (fast charging). At home, charging at a lower kW can take around 10 hours, and is best done at night.

It has an optimised battery management system with an integrated cooling plate to keep the battery healthy, and graphite anodes offering stability. It’s a battery built to last.

Porsche Macan Electric batteries come with a warranty, covering them for 8 years, or up to 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. With an expected battery life of around 20 years, the battery may decrease in capacity and range. This is where leasing a brand-new Porsche Macan Electric is a great option, allowing you to set an agreement term that guarantees you’ll get the best years of the car before upgrading.

Porsche Macan Electric Review – Practicality

The performance of the Macan Electric is great, but at its core, it remains a genuine family-friendly SUV.

The model is perfectly formed to accommodate passengers, making it ideal for families or for business purposes, for vehicles that need to transport multiple people. The boot has a generous 540 L capacity (though this is reduced to 480 L on the Turbo model). This can be expanded to a maximum of 1,348 litres when utilising the 40:20:40 folding rear seats.

If that wasn’t enough, they’ve introduced the frunk (front trunk, located where a combustion engine would usually be), adding 84 L of space. While it may not be the biggest storage option, it’s perfect for in-car staples like screenwash and a tyre repair kit.

The interior storage solutions in the Macan Electric are also generous, with a deep centre console, rear seat-back nets and door bins. Whether you’re loading up the family, business materials or heavy packing for a solo trip, you shouldn’t be too pressed for room.

While there are roomier electric SUV options out there, like the BMW iX, it’s important to remember that the Macan Electric is only a mid-size SUV, so the room is pretty generous given its size, beating contemporaries like the Volvo EX30 in terms of boot space.

In terms of other practical features, the maximum towing weight is impressive, up there with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, which has a maximum braked towing capacity of 1800 kg.

Overall, the practicalities of the Macan Electric match up well to the performance, marking it as a great all-rounder so far.

Porsche Macan Electric Review – Technology and Interior

Step inside the Porsche Macan Electric and it’s immediately clear this isn’t just an electrified SUV. It’s a fully modern Porsche, making its presence known in the EV game.

It has a fully digital cockpit, featuring Porsche’s latest driver environment enhancements, such as:

  • A 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster.
  • A 10.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment display.
  • Latest-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM).
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
  • Automatic software updates.
  • Built-in navigation with charging route planning.
  • Voice control assistant.
  • Porsche Connect services.

The layout remains driver-focused, something Porsche has always prioritised. Unlike some competitors like Tesla that remove physical controls entirely, the Macan Electric strikes a good balance between digital innovation and trusted usability.

In terms of the finer interior details, many of them are customisable and differ between the available variants. The seats are comfortable and are upholstered with synthetic leather (usually Race-Tex). Options for in-seat heating and ventilation are also available with certain trims, working alongside the in-built cabin heating and cooling system for a comfortable journey.

Overall, the tech and interior in the Macan Electric are practical and pleasing, but it’s not quite as laden with extra features compared to other EV SUV models that have a real wow-factor, such as the Volvo EX30.

Out of all of the criteria we’ve looked at, this is where it’s fallen slightly short in terms of comparison. However, the tech and interior is still of good quality, and oozes Porsche luxury.

Porsche Macan Electric Review – Competition Comparison

The premium electric SUV segment is becoming increasingly competitive. So how does the Macan Electric stack up against its main competitors? We’ve stacked the Macan Electric (Standard Trim) up against the standard models of the BMW iX, Audi Q6 e-tron and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.

Here are the findings:

Topline Comparison:

Specification Porsche Macan Electric BMW iX Audi Q6 e-tron Mercedes-

Benz EQE SUV

Power 360 BHP 322 BHP 252 BHP 292 BHP
0-62mph 5.7 secs 5.1 secs 5.9 secs 6.9 secs

Fast Charging 10%-80% in 16 mins 10%-80% in 31 mins 10%-80% in 21 mins 10%-80% in 32 mins

Porsche Macan Electric vs BMW iX

The BMW iX offers strong range figures and a spacious interior. However, the driving experience can feel less engaging than the Macan Electric, and the interior styling is more divisive among drivers. The Macan Electric delivers sharper steering and smoother handling, particularly in higher trims like the Turbo and GTS.

Porsche Macan Electric vs Audi Q6 e-tron

The Audi Q6 e-tron shares the same PPE platform, but the execution differs quite a lot. The suspension tuning, steering calibration and throttle make the Macan Electric feel like a sports car, all while possessing key SUV features.

Porsche Macan Electric vs Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV focuses heavily on driver and passenger comfort as well as premium interiors. It might even beat the Porsche Macan Electric in terms of sheer luxury and the little touches, but in terms of performance, the Macan Electric beats the EQE SUV on acceleration, dynamics, battery range and charging time – making it a good option for anyone with practicality at the top of their priorities list.

Leasing a Porsche Macan Electric through Morgan Highfield & Land allows businesses to benefit from:

Tax Efficiency

Leasing also decreases upfront costs associated with procuring business vehicles, allowing businesses to allocate capital elsewhere.

Protection Against Depreciation

Electric vehicle technology is evolving rapidly. Battery efficiency, charging speeds and software systems continue to innovate each year, so it’s normal that prospective EV drivers might worry about depreciation. Th where the benefits of leasing come in.

Leasing protects businesses from future resale value uncertainty and long-term battery degradation concerns. With agreements from Morgan Highfield & Land, businesses simply hand the vehicle back and upgrade to the latest model at the end of the lease.

A Corporate Image of Sustainability and Luxury

Even as an EV, driving a Porsche still carries weight. Having a Porsche Macan Electric as a business vehicle portrays a strong image that speaks of:

  • Environmental responsibility.
  • Forward-thinking.
  • Premium brand positioning.

For client-facing businesses, this truly matters.

A Vehicle For Business and Leisure

Porsche Macan Electric Review – Overall Rating

The Macan Electric is certainly a vehicle that makes a statement. It’s got great performance features, and while it might not have the same ‘bells and whistles’ as other competitors, its ability to wow without being over-the-top makes it an ideal electric SUV for professionals.“
